Los Angeles International Airport LAX is the main airport in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and is along the coast about 16 miles from Downtown Los Angeles. LAX Airport is the 6th busiest airport in the world and moves more than 60 million passengers annually. It serves as a hub for Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Great Lakes Airlines, Horizon Air and United Airlines.
LAX opened in 1928 and was named Mines Field. The name later changed to Los Angeles Airport in 1941 after the city bought it and “International” was added to the title in 1949.
Located just west of I-405 and north of I-105, LAX has several parking options including hourly, daily, short-term, long-term, economy, garage and valet. These options include: P-1, P-2, P-3, P-4, P-5, P-6, P-7 and Economy Lot C.
There are nine terminals with 113 gates. All terminals at Los Angeles International Airport are connected via shuttle bus. Terminals 5-8 are connected via underground tunnel and above ground walkways connect Terminals 6-8. Over 60 airlines fly to and from Los Angeles International Airport daily to an impressive list of domestic and international destinations.
There are over 60 choices for dining from the economical to the leisurely paced meal. Additionally, there are nine Duty Free Shops spread throughout the airport and over 60 retail shops to browse while you wait for your flight. Wi-Fi is available as well as currency exchanges, ATMs and Medical & First Aid Office.
