The Los Angeles County Fire Department, established in 1920, is a full-service public safety agency. It maintains a fire museum that promotes and preserves historical fire apparatus, equipment and artifacts in keeping with the fire service tradition for the benefit of its members, the fire department, and for the education and enjoyment of the public. The fire department supports the community emergency response team program that educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. The Los Angeles County Fire Department also organizes a variety of youth, public education and special programs that help and assist the public outside the normal fire and medical emergency situations. In addition, it provides several fire prevention tips and maintains a presence in Los Angeles.
