History
The YMCA has had a strong presence in the Lakewood community since 1959. The YMCA has been in the Greater Long Beach area since 1884. Ever since our foundation in 1959 we've been adapting to fit the needs of our community. The Y is the unparalleled cause for strengthening community because we are the community. We are a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Nationally, the Y engages nine million youth and 12 million adults in 10,000 communities across the U.S. The Lakewood Family YMCA serves over 14,000 individuals in the Lakewood and Long Beach communities annually. Our YMCA is accessible to all people. To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to engage with the Y, we offer financial assistance to those in need.
