Best and worst time to go to Lake Merced
September and October have the warmest weather and the least fog, ideal for picnicking. At any time of year, the early afternoon has the warmest, least foggy weather. Avoid the time around 3pm on school days, as the area becomes filled with students who just finished class.

Admission is free at Lake Merced, and there is also ample free parking. The 17 bus line serves the area.
