Established in 1903, the Los Angeles County Probation Department provides a range of services that serve the residents and the municipal and superior courts of Los Angeles County, Calif. The department provides recommendations of sanctions to the court, enforces court orders, operates correctional institutions, incarcerates delinquent juveniles, assists victims and provides corrective assistance to individuals in conflict with the law. The department employs more than 5,200 employees throughout 50-plus locations, including juvenile detention centers, residential treatment facilities and field offices. Its employees include deputy probation officers, pretrial release investigators, and detentions officers and supervisors. The Los Angeles County Probation Department maintains an area office and gang supervision program in Los Angeles.
