Kurukula was started by a female Martial Arts Owner who was also a devoted Yoga Instructor and Social Activist that wanted to develop an intuitive approach to teaching empowerment skills to women. Kurukula is based on a positive teaching curriculum and teaches self-defense skills without the scare factor. Classes incorporate creative games, fun role-plays and exciting fighting drills. 2004 Kurukula Started in Berkeley, CA 2005 Kurukula partnered with the Albany Police Dept to offer classes 2006-2009 Kurukula has expands & receives grant funding to teach at many clubs & schools across Bay area 2012 Kurukula changed to a service organization (www.kurukula.org) to donate our proceeds to causes that promote equality for women

Kurukula.org teaches Empowerment Skills (through Yoga) and hands-on Self-Defense techniques to pre-teens thru adult women.
