KIPP King Collegiate is one of two charter schools in the San Lorenzo Unified School District. Opened for the 2007-08 school year, it serves nearly 300 students grades 9-12. It recieved an Academic Performance Index ranking of 863 for the 2008-09 school year.
The studnet body is 42 percent Latino, 31 percent Asian, 18 percent African American, four percent white and three percent Filipino. About four percent are considered English language learners.
Additionally, 68 percent of students recieve free or reduced lunch.
KIPP King Collegiate is the first KIPP high school to open on the West Coast. The school's mission is "to prepare students to live inspired and ethical lives by developing within them extraordinary academic skills, a life-long passion for learning, and the resolve to change their own lives and the world around them through acts of excellence, justice, humanity, and courage."
