Jay J. Doucet, MD, FRCSC, FACS is a highly experienced and board-certified surgeon who serves as the Chief of the Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Burns, and Acute Care Surgery at UC San Diego Health. With expertise in trauma and general surgery, Dr. Doucet provides surgical critical care to patients, specializing in areas such as chest and abdominal injury, rib plating, abdominal sepsis, diverticular disease, and soft tissue infections.
As a professor in the Department of Surgery, Dr. Doucet is actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. He is also the program director of the surgical critical care fellowship at UC San Diego School of Medicine. With a strong research background, Dr. Doucet's interests include the use of ultrasound in trauma and critical care, as well as the economics of insurance and surgical access. He has presented nationally and internationally on trauma training and has published articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Doucet is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), and he holds a Master of Science degree from Dalhousie University.
