Established in 1986, the International Union of Operating Engineers is a diversified trade union that represents operating and stationary engineers. It also works for the rights of heavy equipment operators, mechanics and surveyors in the construction industry. The union, also known as IUOE, maintains more than 400,000 members in over 170 local unions throughout the United States and Canada. The International Union of Operating Engineers helps labors to earn better wages and pensions, as well as secure job, sickness and accident benefits. In addition, it also conducts training programs and sessions for developing various skills in the workers. The union members have rights to nominate candidates for its offices.
