Huck-Fin Environmental Education is a 501-C3 non-profit organization based in San Diego, CA, dedicated to teaching Environmental Education through fishing to K-12 students in schools and communities throughout San Diego County. With over 15 years of experience working with the Sweetwater Union High School District and 13 years with San Diego County Parks and Recreation, Huck-Fin provides field trips to their private lake and professional charter boat trips on the Pacific Ocean, reaching over 2,000 kids annually and instilling in them a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
Huck-Fin offers educators and students a common interest to share and enjoy, providing a positive leverage point for administrators and teachers to add control and incentive. By requiring permission slips from parents, teachers, and school staff for each field trip, Huck-Fin helps raise students' grades and attendance, while also giving them an alternative to negative influences and teaching real-life applications of classroom teachings. Additionally, Huck-Fin organizes an annual district-wide Tournament of Champions and Banquet of Champions, fostering self-esteem, friendships, teamwork, and the lifelong sport of fishing.
