Founded in 1079, the Health Education Council, formerly known as the Hypertension Council, is an independent, nonprofit organization. It offers a range of health care educational programs and services. The organization conducts community food security, tobacco control, nutrition and physical activity, and breast and cervical cancer education programs. It provides the Latino Campaign program, which is a public health initiative that is designed to improve the health of low- income Latino adults and their families and also features training and advocacy services. The organization offers a nutrition program for children that includes recommending consumption of fruits and vegetables. In addition, it organizes prevention and educational programs against steroids and asthma. The Health Education Council is located in West Sacramento, Calif.
