Husband and wife Dana and Melanie Harvey founded Harveys Industries 1997. While installing seatbelts into their 1950 Buick, they had the idea of making Melanie a matching handbag. The basket-woven handbags, made from automotive seatbelt webbing, are able to hold more than 5,000-lbs. of pressure. The purses feature flight satin, which is used by the United States Airforce to produce flight jackets. The company maintains a 12,000-square-foot design studio in Santa Ana, Calif.
