Hanson H. Zhao, M.D. is a fellowship trained urologist at Hoag Urology and Urologic Oncology’s Newport Beach and Irvine locations. He is focused on reconstructive urology, cancer survivorship and men’s health. His clinical interests include advanced treatments for urethral strictures, male incontinence, Peyronie’s disease and erectile dysfunction. He offers comprehensive options for urinary tract and genital reconstruction, neurogenic bladder and fistula repair. Dr. Zhao enjoys working with patients to help them regain function and restore a sense of normalcy to their lives. Providing clear communications and partnering with his patients to determine the best treatment plans is an important part of his approach to providing personalized medicine. Dr. Zhao completed his fellowship training in male genitourinary reconstruction and prosthetic surgery at Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute in Cleveland, Ohio. He finished his urology residency and general surgery internship at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Zhao earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, New York, graduating summa cum laude. He received his undergraduate degree in bioengineering from University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Zhao is a member of the American Urological Association, Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons and Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He is a well-regarded researcher and lecturer and has published numerous manuscripts, book chapters and abstracts. His academic interests include improving clinical outcomes, medical device development and health services research. His interests outside of medicine include hiking, trying new restaurants, and spending time with his family.
