History
Our ophthalmology practice traces its roots to the 1960's, when Robert N. Dunphy, MD, joined the practice of Dalton Peele, MD in 1963. Dr. Peele served as an ophthalmologist in the U.S. Military, and had returned from service in the Korean War. Dr. Peele and Dr. Dunphy shared an office at the Santa Ana Medical Arts Building, located at 1125 East 17th street in Santa Ana. Then in 1974 Dr. Dunphy moved to an office at 1201 West La Veta Avenue, on the campus of St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, and was joined in practice by Alexander F. Dora, MD. As both physicians retired in the mid 1990's, the practice continued its growth under Mercer L. McClure, MD. He added George H. Garcia, MD, in 1999. Most recently, Dr. Garcia recruited Marc H. Shomer, MD, PhD, from the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA in 2008. Over these four decades, each of the physicians in the practice has carried on a long, unbroken tradition of striving to provide the highest level of eye care possible.
