History
Gellert Health Services is a satellite clinic of Chinese Hospital, a nonprofit healthcare organization located in San Francisco Chinatown. Chinese Hospital traces its origins back to the Tung Wah Dispensary in 1900. Staffed by both Western trained physicians and Chinese herbalists, the Tung Wah Dispensary was established to provide health care services to the underserved Chinese community that faced discrimination and limited access to public services. The not-for-profit Chinese Hospital, with multiple satellite locations throughout San Francisco and northern San Mateo County, provides acute inpatient and outpatient services to Chinatown and neighboring areas, with a multi-lingual staff that makes it possible to serve a diverse patient population that reflects the make-up of San Francisco Bay Area.
