History
The San Diego Freedom Ranch was established in 1972 as the Indian Growth Center, mainly providing services to the Native American population in Campo. Since then it has broadened its scope to provide services to males 18+ that suffer from addiction and was renamed the San Diego Freedom Ranch. Since 1978 and without interruption, the Freedom Ranch has been contracted with the County of San Diego as a Drug and Alcohol Service. Currently the Freedom Ranch provides the majority of its services through the Drug Medi Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS). In its 47-year history, the Freedom Ranch has assisted over 8,000 clients begin their journey on the road to recovery. As a nonprofit, it provides services to all those that suffer regardless of their ability to pay for services. Over the years, the Freedom Ranch has adapted to the many changes in addiction treatment and stands at the forefront in providing services to the East County Region and especially the rural backcountry.
