First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica, also known as FUMCSM, has come a long way since moving into a hardware store at Oregon Avenue and 5th Street about 135 years ago. At the time, it was the only and first church of any denomination. In 1952, it found its enormous location where it now resides. Currently, FUMCSM helps a multitude of charities and organizations that are both secular and non-secular. For seniors, it offers programs like the Upward Bound House as well as annual free check-ups for blood screenings and an annual flu clinic. For children, it has a number of youth study and care programs as well as an extremely active choir. It also has preschool classes and bible study classes for children, teens and adults. Sunday worship features a men's, women's and children's choir along with a handbell choir. Check out the spiritual labyrinth during non-worship hours.
