History
First Southern Baptist Church of Hollywood began in 1946 as a Bible Study group led by a retired minister named Chestnut. On 1950, God burdened the heart of Marshall DeVaughn who was the Pastor of First Southern Baptist Church of Downey. In 1952 Rev. Daniel Boone Weaver took the reins of the small congregation and relocated to the current address at 1528 N. Wilton Place in Hollywood. Gifts and loans from various Southern Baptist groups enabled him to purchase what is now the main sanctuary building and adjoining building. Rev. Weaver initiated the purchase and the church was incorporated with the State of California in October of 1952. Dr. Maddox retired in 1984 and the church elected Rev. Gary E. Tibbs as its Pastor. In the past 31 years the church experienced continuous mission development, as well as outreach into the community with ongoing programs and opportunities which the Lord has provided. We trust the Lord to use us for another 60+ years to the glory of Jesus Christ.
