Fairmont Hospital offers long-term care and rehabilitation services. Its first patient was admitted in 1864, and the hospital began providing rehabilitation services in the 1920s. The hospital is part of the Alameda County Medical Center and accepts patients upon referral from acute care hospitals in the East Bay.
Fairmont has a 50-bed Acute Rehabilitation Center, which provides comprehensive rehabilitation services, often as continued care for trauma patients from Highland Hospital. The rehabilitation center's staff includes physical and occupational therapists, psychologists, dieticians, and social workers, among other specialists. The center also offers outpatient rehab services. Referrals from a private physician or the Alameda County Medical Center are required for outpatient services.
Fairmont has a 90-bed Skilled Nursing Facility, which provides post-hospitalization care upon referral from an acute care hospital. A 20-bed Neuro-Respiratory unit serves patients who are ventilator dependent following a trauma or illness.
The hospital also has a long-standing HIV clinic - the first public clinic in Alameda County for people with HIV - that offers case management and clinical services to HIV+ county residents.
