The Department of Fair Employment and Housing works to protect citizens from employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination and violence. It enforces laws that prohibit sexual orientation discrimination under the Fair Employment and Housing Act, Unruh Civil Rights Act and Ralph Civil Rights Act. The department also enforces public service nondiscrimination laws and the State's bias-related hate violence law. The Department of Fair Employment and Housing receives and investigates discrimination complaints and handles hate violence cases. It provides technical assistance to employers, business establishments and housing providers regarding their responsibilities under various laws. The department operates more than 10 district offices throughout the United States. The Department of Fair Employment and Housing is part of the State and Consumer Services Agency. It maintains a location in Elk Grove, Calif.
