Operational since 1917, the El Segundo Fire Department, governed by the City of El Segundo, offers fire suppression and prevention services. The department operates fire stations that include a fleet of fire engines and trucks, as well as heavy-level urban search and rescue unit. Its operations also include disaster planning, hazardous material management, and emergency response and medical services. The El Segundo Fire Department provides first-aid training, disaster recovery and public education programs. The department responds to natural and human-caused disasters and offers rescue services. It operates a fire prevention division that inspects and investigates commercial and multiresidential buildings. The El Segundo Fire Department has a work force of more than 60 employees.
