The Digital Media and Learning (DML) Research Hub at UC Irvine was a collaborative platform that brought together scholars, designers, and educators to explore the transformative potential of technology in education. Established in 2009 as part of the MacArthur Foundation's Digital Media and Learning Initiative, the DML Hub aimed to understand how digital technologies were shaping the learning, socializing, and civic engagement of young people. Concluding its work in 2018, the DML Hub paved the way for the establishment of the Connected Learning Lab at UC Irvine, which continues to build upon the legacy of the DML Hub through ongoing research projects and the Connected Learning Summit.
The DML Hub fostered dialogue, collaboration, and debate among a diverse community of experts, seeking to leverage technology for progressive educational goals. Supported by the MacArthur Foundation, the DML Hub played a pivotal role in advancing the understanding of digital media's impact on learning and provided a platform for the exchange of ideas and research findings. As a result, the DML Hub's content, along with that of the Connected Learning Research Network and the Youth and Participatory Politics Research Network, has been archived and maintained for future reference and exploration.
