Founded in 1985, De Portola Middle School enrolls more than 900 students in grades six through eight. Its academic curriculum includes programs in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and technology education. The school additionally has departments for art, music, and health and physical education. De Portola Middle School has an athletics department that offers a variety of sports activities, such as lacrosse, hockey and basketball. It supports band, media production, sign language, yearbook, Bible, newspaper and programming clubs. In addition, the school supports S.A.V.E., which is a student-driven organization that teaches crime prevention and conflict management skills and virtues of good citizenship, civility and nonviolence. De Portola Middle School is located in San Diego and is a part of the San Diego Unified School District.
