According to owner Lisa Hellmann, pole dancing is evolving into a full-fledged sport. She is a former longtime ballet dancer. The opportunities for physical fitness, coordination and endurance offered by the new sport are a big attraction for many of her students. Routines, all with feet off the floor while gripping a brass pole, which can get slippery when wet with sweat, include such moves as somersaults (six-pack abs required), the butterfly and others related to gymnastics.
A Davis Pole Dance Studio student recently participated in the U.S. Pole Dancing Federation Championships.
