History
I have always been fascinated by the interplay of body, mind, emotion, and spirit in medicine, and always wanted to be a doctor and help people. At UC Berkeley I studied anthropology to learn more about people from many cultures, and graduated from medical school at UC Davis. After working at public health clinics, I helped start East Bay Family Practice, where I loved caring for people and their families of all ages. I have had back pain since a car accident in 1990, and by January 2003 I just couldn't physically do family practice, though it was very hard to leave. I created my Medical Counseling practice to use all my training and experience, continue to help people, and have so much more time to focus on integrating body, mind, emotion, and spirit for health and healing. I've practiced medicine in this area for so long that I know the community, can make more specific recommendations, and be the part of the health care team who advocates for you as a whole. person.
Specialties
As a physician doing Medical Counseling, I help people and families who live with illness, pain, or medical conditions to find The New Normal, a new way to achieve a sense of balance, inner strength, and wholeness as we move forward with our lives. I do this work individually as well as in online and in-person groups. Visit medicalcounseling.net for details. In counseling, we can spend the time we need to focus on the concerns that you have about your health and healing, body, mind, emotion, and spirit. We explore together how you can discover your own inner resources which support your potential to heal. Using the mind-body connection, our tools, such as guided imagery and meditation, can help medical treatments work better and decrease stress. As an experienced family physician, I examine your situation and review the diagnosis and treatment recommendations by your other health care providers. We can work on medical decision-making. Then we can evaluate other medical care that may be of benefit to you, standard and complementary/alternative care, preventive care and stress reduction.
