Apio, a subsidiary of Landec Corporation, grows and sells various vegetables throughout the western United States. The company delivers close to $90 million worth of specialty-packaged pre-cut vegetables annualy to retail grocery chains and club stores. The company makes and markets its vegetable products under the Eat Smart brand name. Apio was founded in the Santa Maria Valley of California in 1979. It started off growing celery and expanded to include more types of vegetables. Landec Corporation purchased Apio in 1999 and both are headquartered in Menlo Park, Calif.
