History
In 1935, Beth Sholom built its first synagogue at the corner of 14th Avenue and Clement Street and installed its first rabbi, Saul E. White, that same year. Under Rabbi White's leadership, Beth Sholom prospered and became a leading voice in the Jewish community, firmly supportive of change involving women's rights and social justice issues. Beth Sholom has always been a vanguard for change within the Conservative Jewish movement. It was among the first Conservative synagogues to provide women equal participation in all aspects of religious life, including aliyot and inclusion in the minyan, and also among the first to recognize its LGBT members, and the first to house a meditation center.
