The Half Moon Bay Fire Station #40 provides fire protection services for the city, as well as advance life support, cliff rescue, water rescue, confined space rescue, ambulance transport services, and help to those who have been locked out of their vehicles or place of residence. Fire Station #40 is one of three stations operated by the Coastside Fire Protection District, which was founded in 1879. Station #41 is in El Granada, and Station #44 is in Moss Beach. Taken together, the three stations provide services for the entire District, which covers Half Moon Bay and the surrrounding unincorporated areas of El Granada, Miramar, Montara, Moss Beach and Princeton. The District's Web site has a section on disaster preparedness for earthquake, fire, wind and power outages, tsunami and flood. Safety tips are also provided for car seats, beaches, water and rip currents.
