History
Clarion Performing Arts Center, formerly known as Clarion Music Center, was established in 1982 by Clara Hsu. It emerged from a piano and violin shop to become a world music instrument shop where musicians and non-musicians explored sound, history and art. In 2000, Clara discovered poetry as her artistic expression. In 2005 she sold the business to her long time employees, Jien Ha and Lu Xian. Clarion shifted its world focus to specialize in Chinese music, carrying classical as well as minority musical instruments. After a ten-year hiatus Clara bought Clarion back in July 2016 and transformed it into a performing arts center. It is now a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. Since the pandemic, Clarion has created a Showgirl Magic Museum in its underground alcove. Galeria Clarion continues to showcase local artists, and every Saturday there are music and film screenings for locals as well as visitors.
