Self-described as "one of the nation's largest multi-family housing developers," Casden Properties has played a major role in how this city looks. Massive, modern apartment complexes and now the latest "village" concept have such a heavy impact on the cityscape because of their imposing, immense size.
A good example of recent attempts by architects and developers to improve the aesthetic, as well as practical aspects of multi-family life is Casden's Palazzo Westwood Village. This structure, stylistically inspired by the historically famous Alhambra palace of Moorish Spain, represents the current trend in development, in which commercial and residential spaces are nicely combined.
Casden Properties, which was founded by current CEO Alan Casden in the mid-1960s, also did the Villas at Park La Brea and, according to the company's website, numerous other buildings in Los Angeles over five decades -- "$10 billion of residential real estate development, including more than ... 70,000 apartments and 20,000 single-family homes and condominiums."
