Organized in 1916, the Carmichael Water District is an irrigation district located in the central portion of Sacramento County in California. The area served by the district encompasses more than 8-square-miles and serves a population of over 39,000. The district is predominately residential in character, with interspersed commercial areas. The district is governed by a five-member board of directors. Each director represents his division and the ratepayers as a whole, and is elected by the customers of the district. Its employees provide administration, engineering, field operations, maintenance, conservation and public education services to more than 11,000 connections. The district s customers receive 80 percent of their water from the American River and 20 percent from groundwater wells. The district's microfiltration water treatment plant uses the latest water purification technology. Carmichael Water District is located in Carmichael, Calif.
