The California Educational Facilities Authority, also known as CEFA, administers several programs that provide tax-exempt, low-cost financing to private and nonprofit higher educational facilities. It features a financing program for construction projects, short-term equipment financing, academic assistance grant and student loan programs. Additionally, the authority manages the California Student Loan Authority, which issues tax-exempt bonds to fund student loans and to purchase federally reinsured student loans from eligible lending institutions. Established in 1973, the California Educational Facilities Authority offers financing for remodeling and renovation, land acquisition, purchase and lease of equipment and refunding of prior debts. The authority is a part of the California State Treasurer's Office.
