Cajon Valley Union School District serves the educational needs of students in kindergarten through grade eight. It governs more than 20 elementary, over five middle and two special program schools that include Chase Elementary, Emerald Middle, Vista Grande Elementary, Fuerte Elementary and Cajon Valley Middle School. The district has a student population of more than 16,000 and has over 800 certified full-time staff. Its student population is comprised of children from various ethnic backgrounds, including nonHispanic, Hispanic, African American, American Indian, Asian and Pacific Islander and Filipino. More than 50 percent of district s students are enrolled in the free and reduced meal program. The average class size for first through third grades is 20. The district has various departments, including child nutrition, information technology, fiscal services, long-range planning, purchasing, transportation and warehouse.
