Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach, founded in 1939, is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the national program of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. It serves more than 3,500 youth from ages 6 to 18, offering a range of after school programs in education, character and leadership, health and life skills, arts and culture, fitness and sports and social recreation. The club, based in Long Beach, Calif., offers a wide variety of arts and crafts, including photography, art contests, drawing, painting, collages, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry construction, paper crafts and woodworking. B&GC of Long Beach s programs and activities include a keystone and torch club, leadership in training, tomorrow s leaders, seven pillars of character, power hour, technology centers, literacy clubs, operation read and career development. Sporting activities at the clubs include basketball, flag football and soccer.
