History
Martin Strain, the founder, comes from an old Olema Valley ranching family. His great-great grandfather, Henry Strain, was part of a wave of immigrants that began farming in the Olema Valley in the 1850s and he and his descendants dairyed, timbered and farmed potatoes on the same property until Martin's great-grandfather relocated the family in 1920. Martin started Pt. Reyes Oyster in 1985 to realize his dream of working out-of-doors, owning his own company, and growing a valued and delicious food product. He has sold his oysters, clams and mussels at Bay Area restaurants, seafood wholesalers and farmer's markets for over 25 years, always bringing the freshest product to market. He and his son Whitt Strain have founded Bodega Bay Oyster to extend their market to retail customers traveling through west Sonoma County, and will soon open a casual eatery for you to enjoy dining and picnicking on the grounds.
