Established in 1938, the Blind Childrens Center in Los Angeles, is a family-centered agency serving children with visual impairments. The center aims to provide a comprehensive program of specialized education and training to optimize the blind or visually impaired child s development and consequent opportunities to lead a meaningful and productive life. The center serves more than 100 children and their families each year through the infant and preschool programs. The center provides a full-inclusion program with 40 percent blind students, 35 percent severely visually impaired students and 25 percent sighted students. The center s publications include Comenzando Bajo Cero, Talk to Me, Starting Points, Standing on My Own Two Feet, Selecting a Program, Reaching, Crawling, Walking...Let s Get Moving, Pediatric Visual Diagnosis Fact Sheets and Parent Mentor Training Manual. It also publishes Move with Me, Let s Eat, Learning to Play, Heart to Heart, First Steps, Fathers: A Common Ground, Dancing Cheek to Cheek and A Unique Way of Learning.
