History
The Black Rock Arts Foundation was founded by several of the partners who founded and produce Burning Man, an annual arts festival in the Nevada desert. The event is a social experiment in the blending of art and everyday life, where interactive art serves an intrinsic connective function for the community. Highly interactive, engaging and accessible artworks play a vital, central role to the success and cultural significance of the event. BRAF was established to bring this modality of creating and coexisting with art to the rest of the world. The foundation received its 501(c)3 status in November of 2001.
