Established in 1971, Operation Get Down is a nonprofit, community-based agency that provides a variety of programs and services for individuals and families. Located in Detroit, the organization is a member of the United Way and is certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). It is licensed by the state of Michigan. The organization serves more than 35,000 individuals every year. Operation Get Down provides intervention in a residential setting to promote sobriety and prevent relapse for men and women who deal with issues related to substance abuse. The organization supports a warming center program that offers meals and overnight shelters for the homeless. In addition, it administers adult education, emergency services, transitional housing and female day reporting programs.
