Becoming Independent provides services to aid developmentally disabled adults and provide support for their families. It currently serves adults over the age of 18 withdisabilities such as epilepsy, autism and mental retardation. The program's head office is in Santa Rosa, and it has campuses in Napa and Healdsburg, as well as Sonoma, providing services to Napa and Solano counties. The center provides continuing education and a social programs for participants, who can engage in fitness classes, gardening, music and an art program. There are transportation services for commuting to work and recreation activities. The Family Resource and Advocacy center provides forums for family members and a lending library of literature on the developmentally disabled. Central to the organization is a support system for daily independent living catered to the particular needs of the individual. More than half of the board has a family member who participates in Becoming Independent.
