Batiquitos Lagoon is a coastal wetland and home to numerous wildlife species including native plants, birds, fish and mammals. An on-site nature center provides information about the preservation, enhancement and protection of the lagoon. From the Nature Center there is a 1.5 mile trail that is mostly flat, and along the trail there are plenty of benches and shaded areas. The lagoon is 610 acres with a drainage basin of about 55,000 acres. Dogs are welcome on a leash and you'll find many on the trail, as well as runners and walkers. No boating, horses, bicycles or motor vehicles are allowed. Fishing is allowed but only in a designated area east of the freeway.
