History
The location of the Barrel House Tavern used to be The Ferry Building, and was the main transportation to San Francisco before the Golden Gate Bridge was built. After the bridge was built, a new building was built for The Purity Market, and later the restaurant Houlihan's. The Barrel House was actually vacant for eight years after Houlihan's closed. The owner of Barrel House Tavern, who grew up in Sausalito and cares a great deal about his town bought this building because of its special history. He completely renovated the building and with keeping to his philosophy of sustainability he used reclaimed wood, which is absolutely stunning, Curly Maple and California Black Walnut. All of the beer and wine is from California, and the food is from responsible farmers and growers, such as our famous
