Opened in 1893, Bakersfield High School enrolls more than 2,500 students in grades 9 through 12. It offers various academic, athletic and activity programs. The school s academic curriculum includes various subjects, such as English, fine arts, mathematics, foreign languages, science, social studies and physical education. Bakersfield High School has an athletics department that offers a variety of sports activities, such as cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, tennis, volleyball, basketball, soccer, wrestling, baseball, tennis, track and field, swimming and softball. It also offers a range of after-school programs. The school supports several organizations, including the National Honor Society and Future Farmers of America. Bakersfield High School, in addition, offers a gifted and talented education program. Its facilities include a playground, computer laboratory, cafeteria and library. The school is located in Bakersfield, Calif., and is a part of the Kern High School District.
