History
Alchemy started with the dream to create a place that would be owned and operated by the people who work there. A place whose main priority is to give autonomy, dignity, and a stable livelihood for its worker-owners. It first manifested as a pourover coffee table at Phat Beets Farmers market. With community support and crowdsourcing we bought an espresso machine and built a mobile cart, which we moved into a tiny bedroom-sized storefront on Adeline. With more community fundraising and a friendly loan, we built our current cafe on Alcatraz and Ellis, and started roasting our own coffee at Berkeley Coroasting. Now we're out at Jack London farmers market making coffee and promoting our delicious roasts!
