The San Mateo Resource Conservation District provides technical assistance to landowners, businesses and agencies on the San Mateo County Coast in the areas of resource conservation and resource management. Founded in 1939, the Resource Conservation District was the first of its kind in the country; today, there are similar districts nationwide. It is a special district that operates separately from San Mateo County government. Past projects in Half Moon Bay have included developing a watershed management plan for Pilarcitos Creek that balanced the needs and interests of farmers, ecotourism, and residential users; removing a barrier in Frenchman's Creek so fish could pass through; and providing technical assistance to nurseries on water quality and habitat protection. The Resource Conservation District holds meetings at their offices on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm. All meetings are open to the public. Meeting materials are available on the District's website 72 hours in advance.
