History
Our mission is to bring cultures together through food. Food is a universal language that can bridge cultural boundaries and bring people together in spite of our differences. That's why we love empanadas! These handheld turnovers filled with meat, vegetables, or fruit are a staple in Latin America but are loved worldwide. While exploring Buenos Aires, Argentina, we found another icon that captured the same universal spirit - Avenida 9 de Julio. It's the inspiration for the name 9 Julio Empanada Kitchen. Named for Argentina's Independence Day (July 9, 1816), Avenida 9 de Julio is the widest street in the world with 14 lanes that span the width of a full city block. Walking down the avenue, you feel the energy and vibrancy of the city and its people. Yet, it's also reminiscent of the electricity you feel, walking through Paris, NY city, and most importantly the Bay Area. That's why we know that Argentina's favorite street food will be right at home on the streets of the Bay Area.
Specialties
9 Julio Empanada Kitchen brings Argentina's favorite street food to the streets of the Bay Area. We specialize in fresh-baked empanadas with bold, Latin flavors that span the Americas. Our savory empanadas offer a contemporary take on classic Argentine varieties like Criolla Beef or Humita, as well as pan-Latin flavors like Cuban Picadillo and Jamaican Beef. We've got your sweet tooth covered, too, with sweet empanadas like Pineapple Rum and Apple & Dulce de Leche. Empanadas are the star of our menu but our housemade Plantain Chips and Gaucho Chopped Salad are winning fans of their own. We believe that making the best empanadas starts with using the best ingredients. At 9 Julio Empanada Kitchen, that means small batch cooking from scratch. We make our own dough and are committed to using fresh, seasonal produce and the highest quality meats. Our handcrafted empanadas truly celebrate the simplicity of street food.
