University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, established in 1879 is part of the University of Arkansas System. It offers educational and practical programs in various medical fields, such as research, surgery and nursing. Located in Little Rock, Ark., it enrolls more than 2,000 students in over five academic units. It has several educational institutions, such as the colleges of medicine, pharmacy, nursing, health-related professions, and public health and the graduate school. The university has more than 600 resident physicians who undergo training. It also offers financial aid and housing facilities to its students. Its outreach efforts include over six area health education centers in Arkansas, networks of senior and children health centers, and interactive video education and medical consultation services to community hospitals around the state.
