Founded in 1988, City Year is a nonprofit organization that unites young people from various backgrounds for a year of full-time service. The organization focuses on helping children, building stronger communities, removing social barriers, developing young leaders and fostering active citizenship. Its members work as tutors, mentors, role models and leaders of after-school programs and vacation camps. City Year serves children, schools and neighborhoods in more than 15 U.S. locations, as well as Johannesburg, South Africa. It provides school-based, one-on-one and small group tutoring and mentoring services, as well as organizes student enrichment activities and community service clubs. The organization also offers educational programs related to poverty, environmental protection, health and wellness. City Year has partnerships with more than 1,000 corporations and over 3,000 service organizations. The organization is a member of the Voices for National Service coalition. City Year maintains one of its locations in Little Rock, Ark.
