The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP) identifies, evaluates, registers and preserves the state's historic and cultural resources. The agency houses the Main Street Arkansas program, which works with local communities to revitalize downtown commercial areas. It offers grants for the rehabilitation of historic courthouses and other structures. The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program works with city governments around the state to foster preservation at the local level. The agency also works with government agencies to protect historic resources from federal undertakings. Its Arkansas Civil War Heritage Trail works locally to preserve the state's civil war-related properties. The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program is additionally involved in the Arkansas Famous and Historic Tree Program.
