History
The Editorial Department was founded in 1980 by Renni Browne, a former senior editor at William Morrow who later went on to coauthor the top selling Self-Editing for Fiction Writers. (This was the first book of its kind to teach authors how to edit their own work.) Her company, now 38 years old, has 13 editors on staff who specialize in helping writers of all genres hone their writing craft and prepare fiction and nonfiction manuscripts for successful traditional and independent publication. Our clients range from New York Times bestselling authors with established readership to new writers who are just taking their first step on the journey to publication. Our mission for 38 years now has been to give writers of all experience levels truthful, candid, knowledgeable feedback about the literary and commercial merit of their work. Then to provide expert guidance and editing to give their manuscripts the best chance possible of becoming successfully published books.
