Northwest Valley Newspapers publishes the Daily Sun-News, the Phoenix, and Sun City, Arizona s most widely circulated and best read local newspapers. The newspapers circulate to Peoria, Glendale, Sun Cities, Surprise, Youngtown and El Mirage communities, and are read by 250,000 residents. The Daily News-Sun serves the area's retirement communities. The Northwest Valley News serves Arrowhead and northern Glendale and Peoria. Surprise Today, circulates to all of Surprise, including Sun City Grand. The Daily News-Sun features news and is designed for retirees ranging from Baby Boomers through the Greatest Generation. The Daily News-Sun started in 1956 as two mimeographed sheets, published once a month and serving the West Balley Suburbs of metropolitan Phoenix. By 1960 the paper was a tabloid and published weekly. In 2000 Freedom Communications purchased of the Daily News-Sun and its assets in a sale that involves all newspapers in Thomson's Arizona holdings. This gave the company 28 daily and 37 weekly newspapers plus eight television stations.
